Compact Washer and Dryer - Big Purchase, Little Space
66Compact Washer and Dryer - Big Purchase, Little Space
Purchasing a compact washer and dryer is no less of a big deal than purchasing a regular sized washer and dryer. You still have all of the same concerns no matter how tall, wide, or long the appliances turn out to be:
- Cost
- Durability
- Stability
- Quality of Mechanical Components
- Features
- Capacity
All of these things have to be kept in mind whether you are purchasing a compact washer and dryer, a full sized washer and dryer, or one of the more unique stackable or integrated washer and dryers.
The place to start is with an assessment of your needs when it comes to doing laundry in your home. Spend some time answering these questions as they will guide you toward the best washer and dryer for your home:
- How many loads of laundry do you typically do each week?
- Is your typical load of laundry small, medium, large, or over sized?
- How much space do you have to devote to a washer and dryer in your home?
- Are there any features that you must have?
- What is your price range for this purchase?
If you are in the market for a compact washer and dryer the third question is likely to be your primary concern, but you have to keep the information from the other questions in mind as you look at what is on the market. The best fit for your home and lifestyle will be the model that fits into all of your needs in all five of these areas.
If you typically do a lot of laundry each week and are running your machines on a near daily basis or for long periods of time on particular days of the week, then you will need to make sure you select a washer and dryer set that is designed to hold up to that amount of wear and tear. Otherwise, you will find yourself replacing your appliances every few years and that can become extremely expensive.
If you typically have a lot of laundry to do, then getting a washer and dryer with a larger capacity will be in your best interest. When it comes to selecting compact washer and dryers that will still hold a large to oversized load, look for smaller sized machines that still hold a full sized load. You may still not have the capacity that you would ideally desire, but if space is a primary concern all you can do is look for a compact machine that will hold a full sized load.
Most people who are searching for a washer and dryer that will conserve space aren't too worried about the most advanced features, but if there is something you really want to have you may have to consider whether a space saving model or those features are more important. Many smaller sized machines only come with the most basic functions.
Finally, you have to know what your budget is and stick to it no matter what. If you have some extra wiggle room in your budget and can afford to go up in price a bit to get a compact model that has everything you want, then that's great! If you are on more of a tighter budget then you will have to spend some time looking at what is on the market and shopping sale prices online and offline.
