Choosing the Right Ride On Lawn Mower
61Choosing the Right Ride On Lawn Mower
Choosing the right riding lawn mower can be a little tricky. There is a lawn tractor as well as a zero turning radius ride on lawn mower, and several brands in between for both of these styles. The most popular brands for mowers, riding or not is the John Deere, Toro, and of course Snapper, just to name a few. Some brands will have more accessories than others, and each has some advantages and disadvantages.
The first thing you should know is the difference between a tractor and a zero turning radius ride on lawn mower. With a lawn tractor, the power plant is in the front, and it has a steering wheel. Over all it has more power than other riding lawn mowers which is ideal for hilly lawns, but the disadvantage is that it can't take sharp turns. A zero turning radius mower can take turns on a dime, and if you have a lot of trees, then you want to be able to mow around them with one pass. These mowers have the power plant either mid mower, or in the back, allowing them to take turns sharply. The disadvantages with this kind of riding mower is that they don't have as much power, and the controls can take a bit to get used to.
One of the things you have to consider when buying a ride on lawn mower is what you are going to be using it for. For example, if you have a large yard and driveway, either one is going to be all right. If you have four seasons, you may want to consider a tracker style mower, because you can buy plow attachments for it to move snow out of your drive during the winter. One of the other things to consider, no matter which style you choose is one that has a mulch system built into it, to turn clippings into mulch for your lawn.
The next thing to think about when it comes to a ride on mower is price. Any good riding mower is going to cost you at least a thousand dollars, some much more. You have to compare this with accessories, like plowing attachments, leaf collectors, and replacement part availability. John Deere lawn mowers have a wide range of attachments available, and are made in the USA. Toro lawn mower parts are available, but sometimes you may find that they don't have as many attachment options. There are lawn mower covers for either of these brands, if you need one.
So you need to take into consideration the size of your lawn, if you have a lot of trees, and your seasons when it comes to picking the right ride on lawn mower for your needs. There are product comparison websites available to help you decide which one may be right for you, and these sites compare features, pros and cons, and price ranges over several different brands. These sites also have customer reviews, which can help you decide the one that will best suit your needs. There are many lawn and garden outlets locally, and going into a local retailer can help you look at different brands up close to see which one you like the most, and you will be able to ask a lot of questions right away.
